November 21, 2018Very chill place. Cool people are here. One of the last bastions of real NYC. If you know how to sincerely relax and enjoy the vibe at Vanyas.

September 23, 2018The borscht, golubtzi, and stroganoff taste like home. The good wine and beer selections are a nice bonus. Love this place.

July 1, 2018The service was wonderful and we loved everything. The beef stroganoff was tender, the potatoes perfectly seasoned and the blini with salmon made a great appetizer.

June 2, 2018Place was very quiet and we had it all to a group of 4 people on Saturday evening. Why such a low turnout? Quiet was the best part though and reasonable prices second. Food was average at best, chicken soup with dumplings was bland, salad with beets had almost no beets in it, borsch had more sour cream in it than soup, chicken shish kebab was dry as a bone and golubtsi stuffed cabbage dish was not to brag about (knowing that it is actually difficult to get it wrong). The bad - waiter spoke very little English and paid more attention to his phone than our table. With all that said food was overpriced for quality and pleasure received.

May 13, 2018I like this place for lunch for its quiet, warm and cozy atmosphere. Vareniki, pelmeni and blini are delicious. Wines are a steal. Do not recommend their soups - those are pretty bland. Watch out for the amount of included gratuity for bigger groups, our waiter "mistakenly" added over 35% tip, after I asked him to revise it he gave me attitude and changed it to 25%. Had to tell him how much 20% of the total would be to avoid going back and forth.
