The first inkling of an idea for the Sandpiper Restaurants came to original founder Bob Angell as he lounged on the beaches of California. While attending college he enjoyed watching the sandpipers darting in and out of the surf, and after graduation Bob moved back home to Boise, Idaho, where he opened the first of many Sandpiper Restaurants in 1971. From its humble beginnings in Boise, the Sandpiper grew until there were locations in Oregon, Arizona, and a total of four in Idaho. After several owner and management changes, there are currently two locations still open in Idaho. The Idaho Falls location was opened in 1974 by Ron Obendorf, who is still the manager. The Pocatello location opened in 1975 and has been managed by Rod Russell since 1985. Rose Anne Voigt came on as a member of the management team in 1995. Always intended to be casual fine dining restaurants specializing in steaks, seafood and pastas, the Sandpiper Restaurants continue to enjoy great popularity. Our guests have consistently bestowed us with Best Restaurant, Best Steak and Seafood, Best Fine Dining, and Best Date Place awards. Both locations offer outside dining during the beautiful Idaho summer and fall, as well as facilities for larger gatherings.

The best food in town and considered the fanciest restaurant in Pocatello by the locals. They've been around for many years. Be prepared to shell it out 💰though. For 1 appetizer, 2 mixed drinks, 2 glasses of wine, 3 sodas, 4 meals, 1 kid meal and 1 dessert we spent almost $300 (that included the tip).

The most expensive restaurant in Pocatello and worth almost every penny, The atmosphere of the restaurant feels, smooth, live, classy. The service was ok not bad just nothing that blew me out of the water. The food quality was on point but I did have a problem with my salmon fillet, I found a small bone, (salmon fillet should not have bones) it was one of the most expensive dishes on the menu and that was upsetting because the flavor was excellent but after finding the bone I couldn't finish it.

My husband and I happened to spend the night in Pocatello during a road trip. The Sandpiper was next to our hotel and it was snowing and cold that evening so we just walked across the parking lot. What a happy accident! We had a wonderful meal at a reasonable price, the staff was fabulous. We live in Las Vegas and would expect to pay $150 (or more) for the meal had. We even ordered a bottle of wine AND a dessert to share. Our total bill was $86! Wish we lived closer to Pocatello!

It's got a fun atmosphere. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. It's definitely one of the most expensive places in town, but the food is really great. Be sure to call ahead of time to check seating/get a reservation. The parking lot also fills up very quickly, so be nice and carpool.
