I'm sorry we waited so long to try Luella's. The food is fantastic! We can highly recommend the shrimp and grits with bacon and the biscuits with jam. The biscuits came out first, crisp on the outside and fluffy and steamy on the inside. They were big, too. The shrimp and grits followed soon after in their own little skillets. OMG! This was the best shrimp and grits we've ever eaten, and we've eaten a lot. It may look like a small serving, but the grits are so rich, cheesy, and thick that I almost couldn't finish it. So good! We will definitely be back to try more of their menu. The place is small. I counted 4 seats at the window counter, 2 two-tops, and a community table that will seat 10 comfortably. We were the first two customers of the day, followed quickly by another single diner, but as we were leaving a large group arrived, so getting there early is a good idea, especially for brunch. We will be back.

Both dinner and brunch are excellent! My friend only eats dark meat, and there was no option to only order dark.The chicken is crispy and super flavorful. The waffle has the large sugar crystal that you’d find in a liege waffle - so extra special! The seating is limited and you may get stuck in the middle of an awkward bench seat with no easy access - totally worth it for the chicken!

this chicken. is. so. good. And the biscuits...dear lord. We ordered an extra order to go. I was NOT expecting how damn good this place was and i rarely write reviews—only when the tastiness of the meal compels me (so far this has happened exactly one other time). There are so many friend chicken places in Chicago but I think most of them are well overhyped. This is a small little place we went to on a Monday because Honey Butter was closed. It’s now one of my new favs (between honey butter and Gus’s). Biscuits definitely the best of all three. macaroni and cheese wasn’t worth ordering again, but it’s well made up for by their banana fritters—which the cook let us taste as their special this week. Drooling over here. Will definitely be back!!

So incredibly good!! Everything you want for fried chicken—crispy, delicately fried on the outside and moist, perfectly on the inside. The creole sauce really put it over the top for me—I actually mopped it up a bit with the biscuits. Can’t wait to try their brunch!!! Great addition to the neighborhood!

I’ve gone several times and the food is very consistent, full of flavor and the presentation was phenomenal.

Ordered the buttermilk fried chicken and biscuits with jam, my husband ordered the Gospel fried chicken. He was very impressed with the sauce and felt it was unlike anything he had ever had before. He isn't much of a fried-chicken-guy but he enjoyed his meal. The biscuits were fine, I didn't think they were anything particularly special and that goes for the buttermilk chicken as well. It was crispy and tender but needed something to flavor it. I mixed the peach jam with the hot sauce and that provided a nice flavor combination but I prefer to not have to add anything to the chicken. The place wasn't the cleanest even though we came in shortly after they had opened for dinner. The cashier/server didn't add anything to the experience except trying to discourage us from ordering the biscuits and stand around, although in a restaurant there is always something that needs to get done.

Fried chicken and smoked jerk chicken are excellent and unique, the biscuits are made from scratch and honestly some of the best i’ve had. The fruit honey jam served on the side is really something else. Fast friendly service and no long wait (for now). Happy they’re in the area, Luella’s will now be in my regular rotation.
